Teenage girl allegedly hanged by mother in Peshawar over 'honour'

Peshawar police have arrested a woman for allegedly killing her teenage daughter by hanging her from a tree near their home.

According to media reports, the incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Town police station. The woman later surrendered to the police and allegedly confessed to killing her 13-year-old daughter.

Citing initial investigation, the police said that the girl had become pregnant before her marriage. She had earlier left home and was traced and brought back by her mother about a week later, the reports said.

The mother then reportedly took the girl for a pregnancy test, which came back positive, they said, adding that she became angry after learning about the pregnancy and allegedly hanged her daughter from a tree near their home.

The woman claimed that she hanged her daughter with the girl’s consent. The police have so far arrested only the mother in connection with the incident.
