ISLAMABAD: The government is developing a comprehensive package of quota-based fuel supply systems to stop subsidies across the board.
A meeting was held in the Oil and Gas Regulatory System to finalise a plan for the allocation of petrol distribution to the customers through a quota system to conserve energy supplies.
The meeting was attended by the officials of the IT ministry, finance division, and petroleum division to finalise a plan.
The Ministry of IT, finance, Oil, etc., held a meeting to finalise a quota-based fuel supply system.
During the meeting, it was informed that the ministries of finance and foreign affairs are engaged in parallel activities regarding Iran and Saudi Arabia to manage the situation.
The system is being fast-tracked to ensure consistency across all petrol stations and to avoid operational discrepancies.
The government has claimed that it has given a subsidy of Rs69 billion to the consumers of petrol and diesel in the last two weeks.
The four-wheelers' owners will not be eligible for the subsidy.
The meeting finalised a mobile application-based system for the quota of fuel for two and three-wheelers, which can also extend to 800cc vehicles, to ensure that there is a targeted subsidy to the low-income segments and to ensure that oil consumption is reduced to the minimum.
The App will enable the system for the direct subsidy to be implemented by providing the petrol quota. It will be an app-based system that will be totally automated. The app for the retail operators will be free and pre-installed, and the app for consumers will be open.
