Gul Plaza tragedy: Firefighter Furqan who lost his life during rescue laid to rest

A firefighter, Furqan Ali, who lost his life while battling the blaze at Gul Plaza in Karachi’s Saddar area, was laid to rest.

He was laid to rest after funeral prayers attended by a large number of residents and citizens, including opposition leader Ali Khurshidi.

Mourners paid tribute to Furqan Ali’s courage and selflessness, acknowledging that he sacrificed his life while trying to save others during the fire.

Separately, funeral prayers were also offered for trader Kashif, who died after sustaining burn injuries in the same incident.

The prayers were held at Garden Ghafooria Mosque and were attended by Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani, Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, and a large number of citizens.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid glowing tributes to the martyred firefighter.

In his message, the President said that Furqan Ali’s bravery and sense of duty, demonstrated through the ultimate sacrifice, represent the highest example of public service.

He expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and said the nation would always remember the sacrifices of its brave sons.

He also directed the Sindh government to carry out a comprehensive review of safety arrangements in buildings across Karachi and the province.

The Prime Minister stated that Furqan Ali laid down his life while saving the lives of others, adding that the government stands in solidarity with his family in this time of grief.

He also extended condolences to the families of other victims, saying the loss of precious lives has left the nation deeply saddened and that the government shares the sorrow of the affected families.
