A Quetta court on Monday rejected the bail plea of Satakzai tribal chief Sherbaz Satakzai, accused of ordering the murder of a man and woman in the name of so-called honour. However, the court accepted the bail application of victim Gul Bano’s mother, who had been in custody.
According to case proceedings, the suspects had filed bail applications earlier, which were heard on Monday.
Gul Bano’s mother, who had publicly justified her daughter’s killing and called for the tribal chief’s release, was arrested but has now been granted bail.
The Serious Crime Investigation Wing had already submitted its challan in the case.
The double murder came to light days after the incident, when a disturbing video surfaced online showing a man and woman being shot dead in a desert by a group of armed men.
The footage triggered outrage online, condemning the brutal act and the persistence of regressive tribal customs in defiance of state law.
