Continuous heavy rainfall in Islamabad has caused severe flooding in Saidpur, where water levels surged due to illegal encroachments blocking natural drainage channels.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the rising water swept away several vehicles, including one car that plunged into a drain near Saidpur Food Street.

Overflowing drains also inundated low-lying areas, compounding the situation.

City sanitation teams are working around the clock to drain water, despite the ongoing downpour.

A city administration spokesperson said unauthorized constructions have constricted waterways and worsened the flooding.

“These encroachments will be demolished once the rain subsides. A full anti-encroachment drive is planned to clear the area,” the spokesperson added.

Authorities are advising residents in flood-prone zones to remain cautious as the monsoon spell is expected to continue.
