ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties have set up two separate committees to prepare for an All Parties Conference (APC) and bridge differences between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), opposition alliance chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai said on Wednesday.
Speaking after a meeting with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Achakzai said the APC would take place later this month, with its date to be finalised after consultations.
He added that the second committee would facilitate talks between PTI and JUI-F to resolve their differences.
Achakzai said opposition leaders had visited Fazlur Rehman to show solidarity with him, alleging that efforts were being made to damage his reputation. He also announced plans for joint resistance by opposition parties across the country.
Meanwhile, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas criticised the possibility of Governor's Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, calling it a disregard for the people's mandate.
He said the opposition was prepared to work towards addressing the country's challenges while stressing the need to protect constitutional and democratic rights.
On Imran Khan's health, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja raised concerns over the former prime minister's blood pressure, claiming it had reached 192 and was not returning to normal. He said the government had crossed a red line over the matter.
The meeting, held at Fazlur Rehman's residence, also focused on political cooperation, constitutional supremacy and a joint response to the country's current political situation.
