KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced that all public and private schools and colleges in Karachi will remain closed on Wednesday due to forecasts of heavy rainfall.

Education Minister Sardar Shah, speaking to a private news channel, said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.

He added that further directives would depend on the evolving weather situation.

Earlier, the Sindh government announced on Tuesday evening that all public and private schools across Karachi would remain closed on Wednesday, (today) following heavy monsoon rains that inundated large parts of the city and disrupted civic life.

The decision was taken as a precautionary measure after torrential downpours triggered urban flooding in several neighbourhoods, paralysed traffic on major roads and caused prolonged power outages.

Education officials said the closure is aimed at ensuring the safety of students, teachers and staff while drainage and relief operations continue.

Saadi Town, Gulshan-i-Maymar and Nazimabad recorded the heaviest rainfall by Tuesday afternoon, while areas including Gulshan-i-Hadeed, Malir, Surjani Town and Shahrah-i-Faisal were also badly affected.
