In a move to boost education sector in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia has launched a project to build 5,000 schools across the country.

The initiative is part of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre's efforts to provide $14 million in new health and education projects in remote areas of Pakistan and Kashmir.

A ceremony was held in Islamabad on Tuesday, where Assistant Relief Supervisor General Engineer Ahmed Ali Al-Abaiz announced that "various health and education projects are being started in Pakistan, which will cost $14 million."

The event was attended by Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and representatives from international and local organisations.

As part of the Saudi Ministry of Education's plan, four schools will be constructed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with the necessary equipment.

Additionally, 300 feeder schools will be built in collaboration with local communities, with 100 schools being constructed annually.

Engineer Ahmed Ali Al-Abaiz noted that these projects are a continuation of Saudi Arabia's long-standing commitment to Pakistan, with 247 projects already completed at a cost of $12 billion.

Al-Malki praised the KSrelief for its tireless efforts in supporting Pakistan.

"Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, will always stand with his Pakistani brothers to take our brotherly relations to new heightsm," he said.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar echoed the sentiment, highlighting the shared vision of "development, peace, and progress" between the two nations.

KSrelief, which was established in 2015, has provided humanitarian assistance worldwide, with Pakistan being the fifth-largest recipient of aid, particularly after the 2022 floods.

The organisation has built 1,000 houses for flood victims, benefiting 7,000 people.

A delegation led by Saudi Arabia's investment minister is set to visit Pakistan tomorrow (October 10) to discuss investments worth $2 billion.
