A local hunter shot a Himalayan ibex, in upper Chitral, with horns measuring about 40 inches during the current trophy hunting season.

According to the KP Wildlife Department, the hunter, Jamil Ahmed, hunted the wild mountain goat in the rugged terrain of Arkari Valley. Ahmed fired at the animal from approximately 160 metres away under the supervision of wildlife authorities.

The hunt was deemed legal under the region’s regulated trophy hunting program.

Himalayan ibex, a wild mountain goat found in northern Pakistan, is offered for limited trophy hunts to support community conservation and sustainable wildlife management. According to officials, a portion of the fees collected through such hunts is used to fund local welfare and wildlife protection efforts.

This hunt was part of the ongoing trophy hunting season in the Hindukush and Karakoram ranges. In this season, both locals and foreign hunters participate under strict regulations to ensure long-term survival of rare animal species, like ibex.
