The federal government has shared the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), seeking its support for approval, sources said on Friday.
According to officials familiar with the matter, the proposed amendment seeks changes in five articles of the Constitution — Articles 160 (3A), 213, 243, 191A, and 200 — introducing major alterations to fiscal arrangements, judicial powers, and the appointment of key officials.
Under the proposed revision to Article 160 (3A), the constitutional guarantee safeguarding the provinces’ share in federal revenues may be withdrawn.

The draft also suggests restructuring the judiciary through an amendment to Article 191A, paving the way for the establishment of a new Constitutional Court or Supreme Constitutional Court to interpret constitutional matters.
The government also plans to amend Article 213, altering the process for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner, and Article 243, which would place the command of the armed forces entirely under the federal government.
Additionally, amendments to Article 200 are proposed regarding the transfer of High Court judges, while education and population planning are suggested to be brought back under federal control.
The PPP has been handed the draft and requested to extend its support for the amendment’s passage.
