The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has announced its decision to support the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the no-confidence motion against the government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Speaking to reporters outside the President’s House, senior PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said that the party’s parliamentary members had unanimously decided not to express confidence in the current AJK government. “The PML-N will support the PPP in the no-confidence motion,” he said, adding that the party would not become part of the new government.
Rana Sanaullah emphasised that once the current term concludes, free and fair elections should be held in AJK.
Federal Minister and PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal echoed the same stance, stating that the current AJK setup had failed to deliver. “The PML-N and PPP have reached an understanding on the no-confidence motion,” he said. “However, the PML-N will remain in the opposition and will not join the government.”
Ahsan Iqbal further noted that if the PPP secures a majority in the assembly following the motion, it will have the mandate to form the next government.
PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira, who was also present, criticised the existing AJK administration, saying it had become a source of problems rather than resolving them. “The PML-N has decided to sit in the opposition. Our shared goal is to restore political stability in AJK and find solutions to the region’s issues,” he said.
Kaira added that both parties had mutually respected each other’s decisions, underscoring the importance of cooperation for political stability in the region.
