PM Sharif to head National Population Council with Field Marshal among members

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established the National Population Council to address Pakistan’s rapidly growing population and formulate effective policies for sustainable population management.
According to an official notification issued on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will serve as the chairman of the council, while Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has been appointed as one of its members.
The council will also include the chief ministers of all four provinces, the prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. Several federal ministers, including those overseeing planning, finance, health, education, and law, have also been named as members.
Under the notification, the council will meet twice a year, with the Ministry of Population Planning serving as its secretariat.
In addition to government representatives, religious scholars, members of civil society, and private sector representatives will also be included to support the council's efforts in developing comprehensive population policies.
