Pakistan to witness rare ‘Blood Moon’ during total lunar eclipse today

KARACHI: Skywatchers across Pakistan are set to witness a spectacular “Blood Moon” during a total lunar eclipse Sunday (today).

As per PMD the "Blood Moon" will be visible on the night between September 7 and 8

The celestial phenomenon will be visible not only in Pakistan but also across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Americas, making it a global spectacle.

According to PMD, the moon’s dimming will begin at 8:28pm (PST) on September 7, with the partial eclipse starting at 9:27pm.

The total eclipse will commence at 10:31pm, reach its peak at 11:12pm, and end at 11:53pm.

The partial eclipse will continue until 12:57am, with the entire event concluding at 1:55am on September 8.

Experts say the moon appears red during a total eclipse because sunlight passing through Earth’s atmosphere is filtered and scattered before reaching the lunar surface — a phenomenon that gives rise to the dramatic “Blood Moon.”

Later this month, stargazers will also experience the year’s second and final partial solar eclipse in September.
