14 Pakistani universities secure spot in world's 1,000 best institutions rankings

In the latest QS World University Rankings 2024, 14 Pakistani universities have made a remarkable impact and collected spots among the World's top institutions across various disciplines.

This year's rankings encompassed over 16,300 academic programmes, indicating an increase of over 600 compared to previous years. 

The QS rankings, a prestigious measure of academic excellence, evaluated universities based on metrics such as academic reputation, employer reputation, and the International Research Network (IRN) Index.

The 14th edition of the rankings covered a wide area of subjects, including Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences and Management.

A total of 1,559 institutions worldwide were assessed across 55 subjects, with 64 universities making their debut in the rankings.

Among the Pakistani universities featured in the top 1,000 are COMSATS University Islamabad, the National University of Sciences and Technology, the University of Punjab, the Lahore University of Management Sciences, University of Karachi, University of Peshawar, Aga Khan University, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Government College University Faisalabad and University of Malakand.

The University of the Punjab stood out with rankings in 19 subjects, a significant achievement for the institution. Its Library and Information Management programme secured a position in the 50-70 range globally.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood extended congratulations to faculty, students, and staff for their outstanding contributions.
