Pakistan inaugurates first Google Chromebook Assembly Line

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday inaugurated Pakistan’s first Google Chromebook assembly line, calling it a “historic milestone” that will make digital devices more accessible to the public.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Islamabad, Ishaq Dar said, “Today, we are witnessing a truly historic moment as we celebrate a valuable partnership between Google and Pakistan.”

He described the initiative as a “decisive step in the country’s digital transformation,” adding that local Chromebook assembly would make access to digital tools more affordable and inclusive — particularly in the education sector.

Dar emphasized the economic significance of the assembly line, noting that it would create employment opportunities, strengthen supply chains, and lay the foundation for future technology exports.

He further revealed that under a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Google and Pakistan will collaborate to train 100,000 developers nationwide, alongside launching specialized programs for the gaming and startup industries.

The minister added that AI-based local solutions will also be introduced, including Android services for public safety, and that 100,000 Google Career Certificates will be provided to equip Pakistanis with world-class digital training and globally recognized skills.

Dar concluded that Google’s decision to establish its office in Pakistan is not merely symbolic, but a moment of national pride and a testament to confidence in Pakistan’s digital potential.

He said this initiative marks a strategic milestone for the country’s digital economy, innovation ecosystem, and global investor confidence.
