Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry strongly refuted statements attributed to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in a recent column by senior journalist Suhail Warraich.
Addressing journalists in Islamabad, the DG ISPR described the column as motivated by “personal gain and publicity.”
He clarified that no interview was given by General Munir, and the event in Brussels, which Warraich attended, involved hundreds of attendees taking pictures, not a private discussion with the Army Chief.
Warraich’s article, titled “Field Marshal se Pehli Mulaqat,” described his efforts to meet General Munir in Brussels, claiming that the Army Chief spoke about political reconciliation conditioned on an apology and referenced Quranic reference relating to Adam and satan.
The column suggested that General Munir’s remarks were indirectly aimed at PTI and Imran Khan, which caused a stir in political circles.
Reports of Field Marshal Asim Munir becoming president are baseless: DG ISPR
This is how Suhail Warraich put it in his column:
“When asked about politics, he remarked that genuine political reconciliation is only possible through sincere apologies. To illustrate this, he recited verses from the Holy Quran, along with their translation, regarding the creation of Adam and the role of Satan. He explained that initially, the angels hesitated about Adam, but after God created him, all angels accepted Adam, except Iblis, recognising him as part of God’s command and a divine miracle. Those who offered sincere apologies remained like angels, while the one who refused became satan.”
DG ISPR dismissed these claims, saying the journalist misrepresented the remarks. “It is regrettable that even a senior journalist showed such irresponsibility. Those responsible for May 9 and other facilitators will face the law,” he said.
Lieutenant General Chaudhry urged institutions and media outlets to exercise prudence, stating that spreading such misinformation is inappropriate.
