As Spain and Italy dispatched naval ships to escort the Global Sumud Flotilla sailing toward Gaza, many Pakistanis on social media have called on the Pakistan Navy to extend similar support and protect the boats amid threats of Israeli attacks.

The flotilla, now only a few hundred nautical miles from Gaza, has repeatedly been labeled by Israel as a “terror facilitator” and accused of aiding Hamas. Despite these threats and several past Israeli assaults on such convoys, activists on board remain determined to complete their mission of breaking the blockade.

Among the passengers is a Pakistani delegation led by former senator Mushtaq Ahmed, which has repeatedly urged Islamabad to highlight both their humanitarian mission and the risks posed by Israeli aggression.

One Instagram page associated with the Pakistani delegation appealed to users to flood the Pakistan Navy’s official account with requests to send naval protection for the flotilla. The call quickly gained traction, with many users voicing support and urging the navy to follow the example of Spain and Italy to ensure the flotilla’s safe passage.

The move by Spain and Italy has reportedly unsettled Israel, as any attempt to target the flotilla, or the European ships guarding it. could spark serious regional consequences, especially since both nations are NATO members.

Over 300 people, including activists, actors, doctors, journalists, and politicians, are taking part in the mission, alongside a Pakistani delegation.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, on September 24, reported experiencing loud explosions, “flashbangs,” and the presence of multiple drones flying over several vessels as they passed near the Greek island of Crete. Although no crew members were physically harmed, the flotilla recorded at least eleven explosions, and an unidentified chemical substance was dropped on some ships.
