PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has expressed concern over the recent increase in petroleum prices and called for immediate relief measures to protect the public from rising inflation.
The remarks came during his meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Jati Umra, where the country’s overall political and economic situation, as well as key regional developments, were discussed.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also attended the meeting.
During the discussion, Dar briefed Nawaz Sharif on the reasons behind the recent increase in petroleum prices and the economic constraints faced by the government. The prime minister also took the PML-N supremo into confidence regarding the rise in fuel prices.
Expressing concern over the impact of the increase on ordinary citizens, Nawaz Sharif stressed that reducing public hardships should remain the government’s top priority.
He directed that both the federal and Punjab governments should pursue a unified policy aimed at protecting low-income groups and accelerating relief measures amid soaring inflation.
Nawaz Sharif further said that public relief would not be possible without controlling inflation, adding that the government would have to take strict administrative measures to bring the prices of essential commodities within the reach of the common man.
