Member of police team probing Mir Raza murder booked over 'false FIR'

An FIR has been registered against Inspector Ghulam Nabi Afridi, who is part of the investigation team probing the Mir Raza Ali murder case over allegations that he helped register a false FIR against a citizen.

The case involves claims of forgery, misuse of authority and collusion between police officials and other party to allegedly frame the citizen in a fabricated case and extort money from him.

According to the police, the FIR was registered at Shah Latif Town police station on behalf of the state. Four people, including the man who allegedly lodged the false complaint, have been arrested in connection with the case.

The allegations relate to a previous raid carried out by the nominated police officials at the residence of a businessman in Defence. The police claimed that the officials and other suspects conspired to involve the citizen in a fabricated case concerning the alleged theft of a plot file and gold.

The FIR names Nasr-ur-Rehman as the person who allegedly filed the complaint following a personal dispute. The police claimed that he acted with the assistance of Afridi and other investigating officials.
The case also accuses Investigation Officer Iftikhar Tanoli of preparing a false site inspection report.

According to the FIR, Rs100,000 was deposited into the citizen’s bank account and the transaction was allegedly intended to be presented as evidence linking him to the case.

Investigators said that fake documents and witnesses were arranged to support the case against the citizen. The inquiry also reportedly found evidence of alleged alterations and forgery in official records.

Two former Station House Officers of Shah Latif police station, along with former investigation officers, have been nominated in the case. Afridi, who is among those nominated, is currently part of the investigation team formed to probe the Mir Raza Ali murder case.
