A young Pakistani swimmer died after drowning in a river in Lancashire, England, following a challenge with friends.

23-year-old Ameen Ul Haq, who hailed from Malakand in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was attempting to cross the River Ribble with fellow students when he drowned halfway through on Sunday. His friends were not harmed.

Police confirmed that Ameen’s body was found in the river and said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Ameen had moved to the United Kingdom on a work visa, hoping to build a better future and support his family back home. He was the only son of his parents.

To help him travel abroad, his family made major sacrifices, including selling their plot of land worth around Rs5 million to cover visa, travel, and other expenses.

Despite this, the sudden loss has deeply affected his family and friends. Members of the Pakistani community in the UK have also expressed shock and sadness over the incident.

Ameen’s family has appealed to Greater Manchester Police to carry out a further investigation, saying they want clear answers about how he died.
