Several reports have emerged regarding potential negotiations between the high-level leadership of Afghanistan and Pakistan in Doha, though there has been no official confirmation from Islamabad. Some journalists have reported that a travel ban on Afghan officials is likely delaying the matter.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif mentioned Qatar’s offer to mediate the ongoing tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.
He said that when he was in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, for the Gaza Peace Summit, Qatari officials expressed concern over Afghanistan’s cross-border attacks and offered to help resolve the issue.
On Wednesday, Kabul reportedly reached out to a Gulf state to request a ceasefire with Pakistan following strong retaliatory strikes on border areas. The truce took effect at 6:00 p.m. for the next 48 hours.
While there has been no discussion or follow-up negotiations to extend the ceasefire, concerns linger over how the situation may unfold once the deadline expires.
Amid these developments, several journalists reported that high-level delegations comprising security and political leadership from both countries are expected to meet in Doha for talks. Journalist Anas Mallik claimed that Afghan officials require a waiver from the UN to travel to Qatar.
The Taliban regime after not being able to secure a UN Travel waiver have now changed the composition of their delegation for talks with Pakistan after a ceasefire came into effect at the request of the Taliban regime -- The talks will be held on Friday in Doha. https://t.co/dkn8A03LUR

Meanwhile, journalist Sami Yousafzai stated that the Afghan delegation did not receive approval from its chief in Kandahar to proceed with the negotiations.
Taliban source says they have not yet received final approval from the Supreme Leader in Kandahar on whether to travel to Doha.

The Taliban leadership is angered by yesterday’s late missile attack in Kabul, which caused significant civilian casualties.
