Deadly crash in Swat: 15 from one family die in truck accident

At least 15 people from the same family lost their lives early morning on Thursday as a truck bound for Punjab overturned in Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa, according to the rescue officials.

“At least 15 members of the same family were killed and eight others sustained injuries when a truck overturned near tunnel No. 3 of the Swat Motorway on Thursday morning. The family was from the Gabral area of the Bahrain tehsil and were travelling to Punjab when the tragic incident occurred,” Malakand Rescue 112 Spokesperson Shafiqa Gul said in a statement.

The dead and injured include men, women and children, she further added.

However, the rescue team reached on time and carried the relief operation smoothly alongside the motorway police, as per the spokesperson statement. Furthermore, Doctors at the hospital confirmed that four of the injured were critical and have been reportedly taken to District headquarters Hospital, Batkhela.

Most accidents take place on highways and motorways across Pakistan, caused by reckless driving, over speeding and low maintenance vehicles. Poor traffic control systems along with road conditions contribute to the rising number of accidents.
