Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced an extension to the timings of Basant celebrations in Lahore, citing the public’s responsible and disciplined participation.

In her message, the Chief Minister said that Basant was celebrated magnificently in Lahore, across Punjab and throughout Pakistan, adding that the scenes of joy, unity and festivity marked the return of a cherished tradition after 25 years.

Expressing her happiness, Maryam Nawaz announced that the Basant festivities will now continue until 5:00am tomorrow.

She described the extension as a reward for the people of Lahore, who celebrated the festival while fully adhering to safety and administrative guidelines.

She praised citizens for responsibly following all safety SOPs and urged them to continue celebrations in a safe manner, advising people to stay away from electricity wires, secure their rooftops and strictly follow all issued instructions.

It is worth noting that the Punjab government has officially allowed Basant celebrations in Lahore from February 6 to 8, along with the enforcement of detailed safety protocols.

The celebrations saw enthusiastic participation from locals, while foreign diplomats — including the US Ambassador and the British High Commissioner — also joined in, commending the Punjab government for the successful and well-organised event.
