The Chinese leadership has lauded the Pakistan army as a “cornerstone of resilience and a vital contributor” to regional peace, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Friday.

The acknowledgement came during a series of high-level meetings of Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir with Chinese government and military officials in Beijing.

The ISPR said Chinese military officials expressed full confidence in the strength of the defence partnership between the two countries and acknowledged Pakistan’s crucial role in maintaining stability across South Asia.

During his visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Talks focused on regional and global political developments, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) connectivity projects, and the need for joint responses to shared geopolitical challenges.

“Both sides expressed satisfaction over the depth of bilateral engagement and reaffirmed their commitment to sovereign equality, multilateral cooperation and long-term regional stability,” the military’s media wing said.

Military discussions also covered a wide range of issues, including counterterrorism collaboration, joint training, defence modernisation and strengthening institutional ties. According to the ISPR, both sides placed particular emphasis on improving operational coordination to address hybrid and cross-border threats.

Upon arrival at the headquarters of the People’s Liberation Army, Field Marshal Munir was presented with a guard of honour.

The army chief thanked Chinese authorities for their “consistent support” and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to expanding defence cooperation in all areas.

The visit, the ISPR said, highlighted the growing depth of political and military ties between the two countries and reflects a shared determination to promote regional security through continued high-level engagement.
