At least 15 people lost their lives in Swabi district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after flash floods triggered by cloudburst submerged homes.

The latest spell of monsoon downpours has caused large-scale destruction in several districts of the province, washing away roads and blocking access to remote areas due to landslides.

Officials said a cloudburst in Dalori village of Swabi was devastating, inundating homes and sweeping away residents. The powerful torrents also triggered landslides, further hampering rescue and relief work.

Deputy Commissioner Nasrullah Khan described the situation as “critical,” stating that intense fast-flowing flood water engulged the area.

“The flash flood was extremely powerful, catching residents off guard,” he told reporters.

Rescue operations are ongoing with teams from the district administration, Rescue 1122, and additional reinforcements from Haripur and Mardan engaged in search and relief efforts.

Officials have declared an emergency in the area and urged people to stay away from rivers and streams.

The Meteorological Department has warned of more rainfall and the risk of further cloudbursts in the coming days, keeping the administration on high alert.
