At least 146 people have died and several remain missing after flash floods battered Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Friday.

The deaths reported over the last 24 hours in KP included 126 men, eight women, and 12 children. Buner district recorded the highest death toll, with 78 lives lost.

Buner Deputy Commissioner Kashif Qayum Khan confirmed that in addition to the dead, several residents remain missing. A PDMA situation report said that among the deceased were 75 men, two women, and a child.

Other districts severely affected include Bajaur, where flash floods claimed 21 lives, including eight children, and left eight others injured. Lightning strikes in Battagram killed 15 men, while floods in Mansehra resulted in 14 deaths and two injuries.

Swat reported 11 deaths from flash floods and thunder strikes. In Lower Dir, a roof collapse killed five men and injured three, while a similar incident in Shangla left two dead and two injured.

The Buner District Police Officer said that 54 bodies had been brought to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to expedite rescue operations in Battagram and expressed grief over the loss of lives. KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur also contacted the Hazara Commissioner and Battagram Deputy Commissioner, instructing district officials to personally supervise ongoing rescue efforts.
