Karachi and its adjoining areas came under the influence of a monsoon deep depression on Monday, as rain clouds blanketed the city. Light to moderate showers were reported in several parts of the metropolis early in the morning.
Weather experts predict that as the day progresses and the system moves further west, rainfall activity across the city may intensify.
Some private schools announced a holiday after showers lashed several parts of Karachi, including Saddar, II Chundrigarh Road, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Defence, Qayyumabad, Korangi Road, Burns Road, and MA Jinnah Road.
Rain was also reported at University Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Mahmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, Baloch Colony, and nearby areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, Karachi is likely to receive heavy rain with thunderstorms over the next two days. Officials have warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas due to torrential downpours.
Meanwhile, the ongoing monsoon spell has extended to other parts of Sindh, with heavy rainfall recorded in Hyderabad, Sajawal, Thatta, Sukkur, Obaro, Daharki, Mirpur Mathelo, and Naushahro Feroze.
The Met Office has forecast further heavy showers until September 10 in several districts, including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Khairpur, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
