India has released additional water into the Sutlej River, prompting Pakistan’s Ministry of Water Resources to issue a flood alert after receiving formal intimation from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

According to the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the release of water is expected to further increase the flow in the Sutlej, where high flood levels are already being recorded downstream of Harike and Ferozepur.

The PDMA has directed that precautionary measures be taken to safeguard lives and property as the river continues to swell.

Officials confirmed that India had also released water into the Sutlej a day earlier.

At Ganda Singh Wala, the flow has surged to 230,000 cusecs, while at Sulemanki, the river is experiencing high flood levels with a discharge of 137,000 cusecs.
