A music-loving citizen landed in a police lock-up for allegedly playing a Noor Jehan classic at high volume in his car in Lahore.
The Nawab Town police registered a case against Danish Ali on Sunday evening after he was found playing the popular Punjabi song “Jhanjhar di pawan chankar” loudly while driving.
The FIR stated that police stopped his vehicle at a checkpoint and questioned him about the loud music. Danish reportedly told officers that he enjoyed listening to Noor Jehan’s songs at full volume.
The case was registered on behalf of the state through ASI Rehmat Ali under Section 6 of the Punjab Sound System (Regulation) Act, which restricts the use of amplifiers and loud sound systems.
Danish was later produced before a judicial magistrate, who granted him bail and ordered his release.
The song at the centre of the case was sung by Madam Noor Jehan, Pakistan’s legendary singer revered as Malika-e-Tarannum (the Melody Queen).
