Known for her portrayal of socially critical roles, veteran actor Sania Saeed shared her perspective on pressing women's rights issues, saying that Pakistan is not a safe country for women.

Speaking on the FHM podcast, Sania addressed prevalent social issues, emphasising the need for focusing attention on the issues concerning children with special needs, animals, and women.

Discussing feminism, the 'Joyland' actor said, "Women's rights are integral to human rights. The women’s movement isn't against men but challenges the patriarchal system that burdens both genders. Patriarchy imposes the notion that men must be stoic and shoulder an excessive weight of responsibilities, which can be detrimental to their emotional and mental well-being.”

While acknowledging that women also contribute to perpetuating patriarchy, Sania pointed out that women teach their daughters to tolerate abuse and mistreatment for societal acceptance.

She argued that the misinterpretation of women's rights in Pakistan leads to unnecessary debates.

‘The Bandish’ actor urged a shift from a divisive narrative to addressing real issues faced by underprivileged women.

“Instead of focusing on this divisive narrative, why not bring attention to the plight of underprivileged women who work as fisherwomen, peasants, and factory workers and those who tolerate abuse and v*olence and are forcibly confined to their homes. Such real issues are often overshadowed by unnecessary criticism and prejudice.”

Expressing deep concern for women’s safety in Pakistan, Saeed asserted, “This country is the most unsafe place for its own women.”

Sania underscored the need to make society safe for every woman saying, “While travelling abroad, we feel secure in most countries, with a few exceptions. However, upon returning home, we must be vigilant for our safety and it says a lot about us as people."
