Virginia resident Mai Whelan emerged victorious in a nail-biting climax of Netflix's Squid Game: The Challenge on December 6, winning a record-breaking USD 4.56 million. Despite her historic win, Whelan faces a delay in receiving her prize.

The reality show, inspired by the South Korean series Squid Game, gained global attention for its high-stakes games.

The adaptation featured 456 contestants in various challenging games, with Whelan's final-round triumph showcasing resilience. Whelan's journey, from Vietnamese refugee to US Navy veteran and immigration adjudicator, added depth to her victory, highlighting her resilience amid life's challenges.

In a recent interview with The Times, she revealed that she is yet to recieve the money. However, her financial joy is tempered by significant US tax implications, reducing her earnings to an estimated USD 2.8 million.

Netflix's Squid Game adaptation, a global hit topping charts in 93 countries, officially announced a second season.

Netflix VP Brandon Riegg expressed excitement about continuing the franchise, with casting for the next season already underway.

Another intense battle awaits as 456 players vie for the coveted USD 4.56 million prize.
