Sarfaraz Ali, a resident of Karachi’s Orangi town, has recently gone viral for his soulful rendition of the classic ghazal “Tere Bheege Badan Ki Khushboo Se” at Paksitan Idol. His powerful voice and heartfelt delivery touched thousands, making him an overnight sensation on social media.

Pakistan Idol is a Pakistani reality singing competition that is a part of the Idols franchise created by Simon Fuller and owned by 19 Entertainment and Fremantle Media. It is the 50th adaptation of the familiar reality competition format introduced in the British series Pop Idol in 2001.

Beyond the viral fame of Sarfaraz, lies a story of daily perseverance and quiet resilience. He works as a rider, a demanding job that requires him to navigate the chaotic streets of Karachi on two wheels, often in extreme weather, heavy traffic, and unsafe conditions.

He spoke openly about the struggles he faces, long hours, low wages, and the physical toll of constantly being on the move. Every day brings its own set of challenges, yet he pushes forward with determination to support his family in living a better life.

Before his performance, Sarfaraz shared that his friends and manager had encouraged him to showcase his talent on Pakistan Idol.

When he revealed that he would be performing a ghazal by the legendary Mehdi Hassan, judge Bilal Maqsood asked if he believed he could do justice to such a masterpiece. Sarfaraz humbly replied that he would try his best.

As he began to sing, the judges were visibly moved by his melodious voice. By the end of his performance, the panel applauded enthusiastically, while Bilal Maqsood stood up to give him a standing ovation.

Music runs in his blood as Sarfaraz shared that his father is also a singer of  traditional genres like folk music and ghazals. It is from his father that Sarfaraz inherited his love for music, and perhaps more importantly, the ability to express raw emotion through song.
