Goods transporters suspend supplies from Karachi to Islamabad amid container seizures

KARACHI: The Goods Transport Supreme Council has suspended the transport of food and other goods from Karachi to Islamabad after containers were seized in Islamabad and Punjab.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is preparing for a nationwide protest and march towards Islamabad on September 27 to press for the release of its incarcerated founder, Imran Khan.

According to the chairman of the Goods Transport Supreme Council, the seizure of containers has caused significant financial losses to the goods transportation sector, prompting transporters to halt loading operations.

The chairman said the supply of food items and other essential goods from Karachi to Islamabad had been suspended until the situation was resolved.

Meanwhile, shipping companies have also stopped providing containers to goods transporters in the wake of the ongoing seizures in Islamabad and Punjab.

A number of containers have reportedly been grounded as a result.

The disruption in freight movement could affect the supply chain between Karachi and Islamabad, particularly the transportation of food and other essential commodities.
