Yemen’s Houthi movement announced on Thursday that its Chief of Staff, Muhammad Abd al-Karim al-Ghamari, one of the group’s most senior military commanders, was martyred “while fulfilling his duties.”
In August, Israel carried out a series of airstrikes on Sanaa, targeting senior Houthi leadership including the group’s chief of staff, defence minister, and other top officials.
Those strikes reportedly killed the Houthi-run government’s prime minister and several ministers.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed on Thursday that al-Ghamari was among those killed in a recent Israeli strike, saying, “We will do the same against any threat in the future as well.”
Al-Ghamari was a member of the Houthis’ “Jihad Office,” headed by Abdul Malik al-Houthi, overseeing the group’s military operations.
The Houthis have fired multiple missiles and drones toward Israel in recent months, calling their actions acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
Most have been intercepted, with Israel responding through airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.
Last week, Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi warned that his group would monitor Israel’s adherence to the Gaza ceasefire and resume military operations if Israel fails to comply.
