Two National Guard soldiers shot near White House, Afghan-origin attacker held

Two National Guard soldiers were shot near the White House on Wednesday, leaving them critically wounded, while the attacker was detained in an injured condition. US authorities said there is no further threat.

The incident occurred at 2:15 pm local time. As per reports, the attacker ambushed a female and a male National Guard soldier while they were on a “high-visibility patrol.” The wounded soldiers are receiving treatment and remain in critical condition.

International media has shared details about the attacker’s identity, stating that he migrated from Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover.

US authorities are currently examining and investigating the incident, as President Donald Trump termed it an act of terror.

US President Donald Trump turned to X to announce the reported attack near the White House on Wednesday at 2 pm local time, when a shooter opened f!re on two National Guard soldiers and critically wounded them.

The attacker was detained by authorities in an injured condition, with Trump saying that he “will pay a very steep price.”

US President Donald Trump slammed the immigrants who, he said, entered the country and carried out an “assault on law and order.”

“We will re-examine every single person who entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden administration:" he said.

He called for a stricter examination of all Afghan nationals who fled Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover and entered the US. He described Afghan nationals as “aliens” and reaffirmed the need for stronger action against those “who do not belong here or add benefit to our country.”
