The administration of US President Donald Trump has revoked more than 300,000 visas since he began his second term in January 2025, the State Department reported, marking a sharp acceleration in its immigration crackdown.
The latest figure represents a significant increase of more than 175,000 visa revocations reported by the department.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the administration had revoked visas at a faster pace than any previous administration. He cited a zero-tolerance policy toward foreign nationals who break the law, commit fraud or threaten US national security.
Trump has defended his immigration and deportation drive as necessary to strengthen domestic security. However, rights advocates have raised concerns about due process, freedom of speech and alleged racial profiling, particularly affecting ethnic minorities.
The administration has also tightened social media screening for immigrants and visa applicants.
Although Trump campaigned on curbing illegal immigration, his policies have increasingly affected legal immigration as well, including through higher fees for certain work visas, Reuters reported.
