Saudi Arabia rejects “Greater Israel” plan

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has categorically rejected the so-called “Greater Israel” project, calling on the UN Security Council and the international community to take urgent measures to halt Israel’s ongoing actions against the Palestinian people.

The kingdom’s position was reaffirmed during a weekly cabinet meeting chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Ministers restated Riyadh’s firm support for the Palestinian cause, describing Israel’s settlement expansion around occupied East Jerusalem as a blatant violation of international law and a deliberate attempt to alter the city’s demographic and cultural identity.

“Saudi Arabia reaffirms its pledge to the historic and legal rights of the Palestinian people to build an independent and sovereign state on their land,” the cabinet said in a statement.

The session also urged permanent UN Security Council members to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive steps to stop what it termed Israel’s “systematic oppression” of Palestinians.

Riyadh cautioned that continuation of such policies threatens to destabilize the region further and undermine prospects for peace.

The cabinet emphasized that the rejection of the “Greater Israel” project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s long-standing foreign policy, rooted in Arab and Islamic solidarity.

The kingdom continues to endorse international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002, which advocates a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

Ministers further condemned Israel’s recent approval of plans to seize sections of Gaza City, warning that such actions not only heighten tensions but also risk igniting a broader conflict.
