Protests were held outside the White House in Washington following the US military operation in Venezuela and President Donald Trump’s statement claiming control over the country.

A large number of demonstrators gathered outside the White House, chanting slogans and waving banners reading “No war against Venezuela”. Meanwhile, in Times Square, protesters staged a rally demanding the arrest of President Trump.

In Paris, left-wing activists condemned the US strikes on Venezuela and waved Venezuelan flags. Thousands of people also marched in Athens in protest against the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

In Rome, Italian citizens demonstrated against the US military operation in Venezuela, while protests were also reported in Argentina and Colombia, condemning the American attack.

It is worth noting that during a press conference in Florida, President Trump announced criminal charges against President Maduro, stating that Maduro and his wife were being transferred to New York to be brought before the courts.

President Trump further claimed that, on his orders, the US military carried out an extraordinary operation in the Venezuelan capital, showcasing air, ground and naval power.

He described the action as an unprecedented display of US military strength.

In a separate statement, President Trump also said that the United States would run Venezuela until a transfer of power takes place,

adding that American oil companies would operate in the country.
