A man has died in an incident involving a rollercoaster at an amusement park in the US state of Georgia.

The incident occurred at Six Flags in Georgia on Monday. The Cobb County Police Department’s major crimes unit has launched an investigation into the incident.

A witness who was on the Goliath rollercoaster told local broadcaster 11Alive that a man was thrown from the ride and struck by the vehicle.

“A young Black male was ejected from the vehicle,” the witness said, adding that the vehicle hit the man twice as he was thrown into the air.

“The vehicle hit him, and then he flew back up again, and it hit him again,” he said.

Another passenger told 11Alive that the man struck the rollercoaster vehicle three times before landing on a woman seated two rows ahead.

The witness said the man’s son was sitting beside him on the ride, while his wife and daughter were waiting at the bottom and were unaware of what had happened.

A spokesperson for Six Flags Entertainment Corporation said that similar rollercoasters at several of the company’s parks had been closed as a precaution while the investigation continued.

“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” the spokesperson said, adding that the park was cooperating with the investigation.
