Lebanese journalists Zeinab Faraj and Amal Khalil were pinned down for more than one hour after an Israeli strike, they were not able to leave and rescue services were not able to reach them.

A senior Lebanese military official quoted by Reuters said the body of the journalist Amal Khalil was found under the rubble.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry had earlier said Israel “pursued” journalists Khailil and Zeinab Faraj by “targeting” the house where they took shelter after an Israeli attack in a southern Lebanese town.

The Israeli army denied targeting the journalists.

Lebanon’s National News Agency has also confirmed the killing of journalist Amal Khalil following an Israeli attack.

It quoted a statement by the country’s Press Club saying Khalil “paid with her life and blood for a cause she believed in”.

The organisation said the attack was part of Israel’s “deliberate campaign targeting journalists and media workers”.

A team from the Red Cross was eventually able to reach the location and evacuate Faraj. They brought her to hospital along with the bodies of two civilians who were killed in an earlier strike.

During that transportation, the ambulance came under fire and it is riddled with bullets. Faraj has undergone surgery and is reportedly now stable.
