Israeli settler runs over Palestinian praying by roadside in Ramallah

A Palestinian man was injured after an armed Israeli settler ran him over while he was praying in the occupied West Bank, according to media reports.

The incident took place in the village of Deir Jarir near Ramallah. The suspect was later identified as an Israeli citizen who also serves as a reserve soldier.

Videos shared on social media show a man praying by the roadside moments before a vehicle drives into him. Medical sources quoted by Al Jazeera said the young man suffered injuries and bruises and was taken to hospital for treatment.

In a separate statement, the Israeli army said it had received a report about a shooting carried out by an Israeli citizen and reserve soldier in the same village. The suspect was wearing civilian clothes at the time of the incident.

The army said the shooting was carried out in “gross violation of his authority” and that an investigation later established a link between the shooting and the vehicle-ramming incident.

According to the statement, the soldier’s weapon was seized and his military service was ended “due to the seriousness of the events”.

Israeli Army Radio reported that the suspect also shot and wounded two Palestinians during the incident.
