The Israeli Army Chief, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, has expressed support for a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict.

According to Israeli media, General Zamir stated that recent military operations in Gaza have created conditions conducive to reaching a deal with Hamas.

He asserted that the Israeli government should accept the proposed ceasefire agreement being mediated by international intermediaries.

During a visit to a naval base in Haifa, Zamir referred to the framework proposed by U.S. envoy Steve Wiktorowicz, saying that a draft agreement is on the table and that the decision now rests with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The army chief also warned that any attempt to seize full control of Gaza City could endanger the lives of hostages held by Hamas.

It is worth noting that Hamas had approved the ceasefire proposal last week.

However, the Israeli government has yet to respond to the proposal.

In parallel, the Israeli government has authorized expanded military operations aimed at taking control of Gaza City, leading to intensified attacks by the Israeli military in the region.
