Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in good health and that the injuries he sustained have also healed.
In an interview with a U.S. broadcaster, Masoud Pezeshkian said that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has no particular health problems and is medically completely healthy.
Pezeshkian said he had met Mojtaba Khamenei twice, with one of the meetings lasting more than seven hours. He added that the injuries to Mojtaba Khamenei’s face and legs have healed.
Asked about reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Pezeshkian said that if Iran’s offer is accepted, Iran will honor its commitments to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume negotiations.
He said that if the United States accepts Iran’s proposal regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, negotiations will begin on the same day.
He said that an atmosphere of mistrust currently exists between Iran and the United States and that it would be difficult to hold a direct meeting with the U.S. president.
He said the United States is imposing sanctions on Iran, issuing threats and carrying out attacks on a daily basis. He also said that the United States had failed to honor written commitments it made in the past. According to Pezeshkian, the question remains whether the United States would fulfill its commitments after negotiations.
Pezeshkian said Iran is prepared to allow United Nations nuclear inspectors to enter the country, adding that a specific agreement and arrangement could be reached during negotiations concerning nuclear inspections.
He said Iran is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons and that producing nuclear weapons is forbidden under Islamic law.
He added that even if some people in Iran wanted to develop nuclear weapons, they would not be permitted to do so from a religious perspective.
