Iranian state media have claimed that between 41 million and 43 million people participated in the six-day funeral ceremonies for Iran's slain Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

According to Press TV, the funeral was "the largest procession the world has ever witnessed". The ceremonies were held across five cities — Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala and Mashhad.

The official public funeral proceedings began last Saturday at Tehran's Grand Mosalla religious complex, where tens of thousands of mourners gathered as Khamenei's coffin was placed on public display.

Delegations from Hamas and Islamic Jihad from Gaza, Lebanon's Hezbollah and Yemen's Houthi movement also attended the ceremonies.

Khamenei was laid to rest at Iran's holiest Shia shrine more than four months after he was killed in what Iran says was a US-Israeli strike on his compound in central Tehran.
