French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, are preparing to present scientific and photographic evidence in a US court to prove that France’s first lady is, in fact, a woman.

The move comes after American right-wing commentator Candace Owens repeatedly spread claims suggesting Brigitte was born male and living under a stolen identity.

Speaking on the BBC podcast, Macron’s lawyer Tom Clare said the decision had not been easy but was necessary to put an end to the rumors.

“It is incredibly upsetting to think you have to go through this, to put forward this kind of proof,” Clare remarked. “Like anyone else, he’s a husband and a father as well as a president. When your family is under attack, it wears on you.”

According to Clare, Brigitte is fully prepared to face the uncomfortable process, despite how public and invasive it will be.

“If that unpleasantness is what it takes to stop these lies and set the record straight, she is 100 percent ready to do it,” he added.

The lawsuit, filed in a Delaware court, lists 22 counts against Owens. Beyond questioning Brigitte’s gender on an eight-episode podcast series, Owens also alleged that Macron and Brigitte were related, accusing the couple of being in an “immoral relationship.”

This is not the first time such conspiracy theories have circulated. In 2021, two French women posted a YouTube video claiming Brigitte was a man named Jean-Michel Trugno, supposedly her brother.

Macron has already sued them, and that case is still ongoing in France’s highest court after the Paris Court of Appeal overturned an earlier ruling.
