ICC has updated the semi-final arrangements for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup based on the outcomes of the Super 8 stage, introducing a more flexible venue schedule that depends on which teams qualify for the knockout rounds.
According to its official communication to all stakeholders after the Super 8 teams were finalized, the ICC confirmed that Semi-Final 1 will be a “floating” match, to be played either in Colombo, Sri Lanka, or Kolkata, on March 4. If Pakistan qualifies for the semi-finals, it will play Semi-Final 1 in Colombo.
However, if Pakistan fails to reach the last four but Sri Lanka qualifies and is drawn against any team other than India, Sri Lanka will host Semi-Final 1 at Colombo Premadasa Stadium.
This development effectively revises earlier plans that did not explicitly outline a home semi-final opportunity for Sri Lanka.
If neither Pakistan nor Sri Lanka makes the semi-finals, the first of the two knockout matches will instead be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Meanwhile, Semi-Final 2 is scheduled for March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where India will play if it qualifies, unless it faces Pakistan, in which case that match would also be shifted to Colombo under the most-likely plan.
Under these revised logistics, the final venue for the championship match on March 8 remains dependent on which teams reach that stage, with Colombo poised to host if Pakistan is involved.
