Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan’s future as the national ODI captain will be determined by the selectors following a string of poor team performances.
Rizwan, who replaced Babar Azam as Pakistan’s white-ball captain in October 2024, had an impressive start to his tenure with series victories against Australia and South Africa. However, the team’s form has declined in recent months, including losses in a tri-nation series against South Africa and New Zealand, an early group-stage exit from the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 at home, and defeats in subsequent ODI series against New Zealand and the West Indies.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a private event in Lahore on Saturday, Naqvi stressed that the decision rests with the selection committee. “Selectors will make a decision.
The head coach has submitted his report after our last contested ODI. We are going through it, and after mutual consultation, whatever is decided will be conveyed,” he said.
Naqvi also explained the absence of a Category A in the recently announced central contracts, linking it to the national team’s underwhelming performances. “It was decided on the basis of the performances,” he noted.
