Indian opener Abhishek Sharma becomes Pakistan’s most-searched athlete of 2025

Indian opener Abhishek Sharma became an unexpected centre of attention in Pakistan this year, becoming the most-searched athlete in the country, according to Google’s 2025 trends.

He was also the only non-Pakistani to break into the top five.

Abhishek’s popularity in Pakistan grew during a year in which India defeated Pakistan in all four of their encounters. India claimed victories in the 2025 Champions Trophy clash and later beat Pakistan three more times in the Asia Cup, including the tournament final.

The young left-hander made a strong impression in the Asia Cup. He ended the event as the highest run-getter with 314 runs, averaging 44.85 at a strike rate near 200. His aggressive style became one of the major talking points of the tournament.

He particularly caught Pakistani fans’ attention during the two group matches between the rivals. In the first game, he smashed 31 from 13 balls, and in the next meeting, he fired a quick 74 off 39 deliveries.

Women’s cricket also drew attention in India. Jemimah Rodrigues appeared among the most-searched names after helping India secure their first Women’s World Cup title.
