Disciplinary action may be taken against Indian cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) formally complained to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over his political remarks following the Asia Cup group-stage clash against Pakistan.
The ICC has reportedly accepted the PCB’s stance, with match referee Richie Richardson currently reviewing the matter.
According to Indian media reports, Yadav’s troubles could deepen as the ICC evaluates the complaint. The PCB’s letter to the ICC, details of which have now surfaced, accuses the Indian skipper of breaching the code of conduct by making political references at the end of the September 14 match.
The letter argues that Yadav “dragged politics into cricket and harmed the spirit of the game,” citing his alleged remarks related to the Pahalgam incident and Operation Sindoor. The PCB maintained that such conduct is a direct violation of the ICC Code of Conduct and called for strict disciplinary measures.
The PCB further stressed that if action is not taken against Yadav, it risks setting a precedent that could turn cricket grounds into political arenas. The letter also highlighted that the ICC has previously ruled solidarity message for Palestine as breaches of conduct, and thus Yadav’s comments should be treated in the same way.
The board concluded that Yadav’s words were directed against Pakistan and demanded the “strictest possible action” from the ICC.
