Army, Rangers deployed for security during Sri Lanka, England cricket tours

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has deployed the Pakistan Army and Rangers for security and protection duties during the upcoming tours of Pakistan by the Sri Lankan and English cricket teams.
The deployment notification was issued following approval by the federal cabinet, according to official sources.
Under the notification, Army and Rangers personnel have been deployed to provide security and protection during the teams’ visits. The deployment was made following requests from the Punjab Home Department and the Chief Commissioner’s Office, Islamabad.
The notification states that the Army has been deployed under Article 245 of the Constitution, while the Rangers have been deployed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The first T20I will be played in Rawalpindi on October 9, followed by the second match on October 11 and the third on October 13.
Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka will also compete in a seven-match ODI tri-series.
The first three matches of the tri-series will be played in Rawalpindi, while the remaining league matches and the final will be held in Lahore.
